National Venture Capital Association An overview of the VC industry and links to additional resources. "Industry Overview" is particularly useful, but some services cost money.

VentureOne Brings together promising entrepreneurs and leading members of the venture capital community, providing a resource of information on venture-backed companies and venture investors. Good free information.

Advent International Corp. - MA
Specific data not available. Initial investment likely to be >$5M, but have done smaller seeds.

Ampersand Ventures - MA
Prefers to make very few, large investments. Not great place to look for seed financing.

Ascent Venture Partners - MA
Some medical device investments but no biotech. Total investment per deal are $3M-6M.

Atlas Venture - MA
Initial investments of $0.5M-10M, though can do seed deal of <$0.5M.

BancBoston Capital Inc. - MA
Invest $2M-5M per deal.

Bedrock Capital Partners - MA

Tend to do large investments in a few companies.

Greylock Management Corp. - MA
Funded Millennium, Vertex, and Praecis, though may not be as active in biotech since 1998.

MPM Asset Management - MA
MPM's BioVentures funds are some of the largest dedicated healthcare venture capital funds focused on private healthcare companies. BioVentures I Funds will be invested in approximately 80% biotechnology (therapeutics and enabling technologies) and 20% in medical device and pharmaceutical service companies.

New England Partners - MA
Invest $0.5M-6M but not at seed stage.

North Bridge Venture Partners - MA
Willing to provide seed of $0.1M-0.2M with much larger secondary investments. Evening willing to provide office space.

OneLiberty Ventures - MA
Early stage ventures in the areas of IT, medical technologies, and telecommunications.  Invest $1M - $8M per deal.

Oxford Bioscience Partners - MA
A life science venture capital firm that provides equity financing and management assistance to start-up and early-stage, entrepreneurial-driven companies in the bioscience and healthcare industries. Typically invest $1M-7M per deal, though will rarely do smaller seed deals.

Polaris Ventures - MA
Investments across a broad range of information technology, life science, and medical technology sectors.  Invests $0.25M-15M initially per deal with total investment approaching $30M. Greenhouse program is designed for seed stage deals.

Prism Venture Partners - MA
>$4M total investment in individual companies. Initial investment presumably smaller.

RCT Bioventures - MA
Works with entrepreneurs at an early stage, even before a business plan is available. Typically invest $500K-750K into promising new technologies and develop them into early-stage companies.

Schroder Ventures - MA
Invested in over 80 life science companies since 1983. Typical investments are $3M-15M per deal.

Seaflower Ventures - MA
Active in biotech. $0.25M-1.25M Offers interim management.

Sherbrooke Capital, LLC - MA
Invests $2M-10M per deal. Looks for health services, nutritional products, and personal diagnostics devices.

Spray Venture Partners - MA
Great portfolio. Should be willing to do seed deals.

St. Paul Venture Capital, Inc. - MA
Invests total of $1M-15M.

Still River Fund - MA
Most investments that the fund makes will be in private companies located in the northeast United States and doing business in the telecommunications, e-commerce, life sciences, and business services industries. Initial Still River portfolio company investments are between $500,000 and $3 million.

Venrock Associates - MA
Assisting entrepreneurs in building Information Technology and Healthcare-related companies from the formative stages by work closely with management to shape strategy, build management ranks, and develop critical industry relationships.

Zero Stage Capital Co., Inc. - MA
Invest $0.25M-3M in start-ups and more in later stage companies.

MONTREAL, CANADA

Transfer Technologies Commercialization Capital - QUE Founded in 1997, T2C2/Bio is a Montreal-based venture capital firm that focuses on seed and early-stage life sciences investments. One of Canada’s pre-eminent, dedicated life sciences funds, T2C2/Bio is international both in its investor base and investment scope. T2C2/Bio’s particular investment preference is in innovative technologies that address unmet need in human healthcare markets. To date, T2C2/Bio has founded and invested in more than 30 companies.

Invest $5M-25M per company. Some biotech activity in MA.

Collinson Howe & Lennox, LLC - CT
Invests $0.25M-5M per deal. Very involved in biotech.

Connecticut Innovations, Inc. - CT
Invest $0.1M-1M on in CT companies. Intent is to promote local venture creation.

Tullis-Dickerson & Co., Inc. - CT
Invest $2M-10M per deal.

MAINE

Masthead Venture Partners - ME
has experience doing seed biotech. Invest $0.5M-5M per deal. PureTech may offer Boston connection.

NEW JERSEY

Domain Associates - NJ
Invests in established and early stage healthcare and life sciences ventures.

Early Stage Enterprises - NJ
Focuses on mid-atlantic region, CT and NJ are about as far north as they go. Invest $0.5M-1M in seed and then >$2.5M later.

Maniv Investments, LLC - NJ
Seed level investments in life science discoveries coming out of uninversities. Under $1M.

Proquest Investments - NJ
Cancer focus. Particularly prostate cancer. $0.5M-10M per deal.

NEW YORK

Arch Venture Partners - NY
Though ARCH is a VC firm, it gets involved at very early stage. Does lots of biotech but no deals yet in Boston area.

Chase Capital Partners - NY
Invest $5M-20M per deal. Heavily interested in biotech. Have partnership with Polaris.

Harris & Harris Group, Inc. - NY
Invests $1M-2M per deal.

Hudson Venture Partner LP - NY
Invest $2M-5M. Invested in Acorda (NY) and an Arizona company. Mostly do internet.

Long Island Venture Fund, LP - NY
Affiliation with local institutions may cause it to be regionally focused. Does seed stage investments.

Morgan Stanley Venture Partners - NY
Venture arm of investment giant.  Invest $5M-25M per deal.

Paramount Capital - NY
Venture capital firm that professes to take a very active role in new company formation.  ILook for genomics, gene therapy, antisense, monoclonals, etc.

RHO Management - NY
Invests $5M-15M per deal.

Radius Ventures, LLC - NY
Invests <$2.5M per deal.

Rand Capital Corp. - NY
Invests $50K-5M.

Sprout Group - NY
Invests $5M-50M. Some biotech but no medical devices.

Warburg, Pincus & Co. - NY
One of the largest VC funds in the world. Average investment per company is >$15M.

MARYLAND

New Enterprise Associates - MD
NEA invests principally in early stage companies in information technology (software, communications, electronics and information services) and medical and life sciences (biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare services, medical devices, instrumentation and information management).

GEORGIA
